SAN MARINO

San Marino Transport

Getting to and from San Marino

There are no trains that travel into San Marino, so you're going to have to rely on buses or drive there yourself. Depending on the season there are up to nine buses shuttling to Rimini daily. There's also a daily service to Urbino. Both services leave from Piazzale Calcigni (also known as Piazalle delle Autocorriere). If you are keen to drive into San Marino, take the S72 from Rimini's city centre. Park near the funivia (cable car) and catch it into the city centre.

Getting around in San Marino

Cars are actually prohibited in the walled area of San Marino. Usually the best option is the explore the city by foot. This may sound daunting but it really is a good option - it lets you see everything up close and personal, and the city is very small! If you have a car in San Marino, what you need to do is park it at one of the car parks in the nearby township of Borgo Maggiore (there are a number of car parks), at the foot of the mountain, and take the 1.5km (1 mile) cable car up to San Marino. Another option (but not a better one) is to leave your car at one of the various car parks inside the city limits but outside the walled section. This is an expensive option, so we recommend sticking with the car parks in Borgo Maggiore.
